Diana:

Shokujo, daughter of the Sky Lord, really loved weaving, and spent all of her time doing it.

The Sky Lord could not just ignore this, so he had her marry Kengyuu, a cattle herder from the other end of the Milky Way.

Once they were married, they did nothing but goof off and neglect their work.

The Sky Lord became angry and separated them, allowing them to meet only once a year: on the night of July 7th.

July 7th is always during the rainy season, so it often rains. It could rain this year, too, and they wouldn't be able to meet.

Shokujo refers to Vega of the Lyra constellation.

It has a luminosity of 0.1, and it's the fourth brightest star in the sky.

Vega, along with Zeta and Epsilon to the northeast, are also called the three weaver girl stars in China.

Kengyuu refers to Altair of the Aquila constellation. It has a luminosity of 0.9. On summer nights, you can see both stars high in the sky.
