Story

The announcer asks for another round of applause for Jackie before giving him the 500,000 Zenii prize. Jackie then heads through the rear waiting area, where Gokuu and Kuririn congratulate him and say goodbye as he departs. The boys thus decide to go look for their master, though Gokuu is feeling a little tipsy from hunger. After they leave the area, the old man rips off his wig and changes back into his suit, hat, and sunglasses.

Gokuu and the others wonder where the Turtle Hermit is until he finally joins them. Blooma asks where he has been, so he explains that he watched the matches from the back, and was in the bathroom just now. Kuririn asks if he saw them fight, and the Turtle Hermit confirms it by stating that they both fought very well. Kuririn thinks that hunger is the only reason Gokuu lost, but Gokuu says the old man was just really strong either way. The Turtle Hermit agrees, explaining that the world is full of stronger people, and now the real training begins. Gokuu and Kuririn understand, and so the Turtle Hermit decides to treat them to a big dinner. He invites Yamcha, Blooma, Oolong, and Puer to join them, though Blooma hopes there is no catch to his offer.

At a restaurant, Gokuu scarfs down plate after plate as the others watch in disbelief. Some time passes, and Blooma thinks Gokuu has eaten 30 servings, but Yamcha says it was actually 50. Gokuu then asks the waiter for two more, but the waiter explains that they've run out of ingredients. So Gokuu decides to settle for having eaten in moderation, causing everyone to fall out of their seats. The Turtle Hermit then goes to pay the bill, which is 470,000 Zenii. Nearly all of the prize money.

The seven of them drive through the city in a van, where Yamcha asks Gokuu and Kuririn if they'll continue training. The Turtle Hermit says he has nothing left to teach them, so they must take their own paths from now on. Gokuu thus decides to search for Grandpa's Dragon Ball. Kuririn wonders what that is, so Gokuu simply explains that it is a memento of his late grandfather. Oolong tells Gokuu he'll have to search alone. The Turtle Hermit then asks Kuririn what he will do, but Kuririn has not yet decided, so he will stay with the Turtle Hermit a little longer. The old man curses the fact that he can't be alone with Lunch.

Yamcha then decides to take them all home, as thanks for dinner, so they pull over and search for the plane capsule. Gokuu looks through the Turtle Hermit's briefcase for his belongings, and then states that he is leaving. He wants to start as soon as possible, and then he calls for the Somersault Cloud. Kuririn asks to join him, but Gokuu rejects the offer, since Kuririn can't ride the Somersault Cloud. After confirming that he knows how to use the Dragon Radar, Gokuu finally flies away into the night sky. Meanwhile, the others have returned to the van, since Blooma apparently lost the plane capsule. On top of that, the van has suddenly run out of gasoline.

Continuity

The events of this chapter are depicted in Dragon Ball 28 and Dragon Ball 29. These episodes first aired approximately 9 months after this chapter was first published. Anime-original material includes the Turtle Hermit fantasizing about scantily clad women, the Turtle Hermit fantasizing about Lunch, the Turtle Hermit remaining in the Southern Capital to shop for women's underwear, Blooma, Yamcha, et al. getting lost in a desert, and a lengthy story in which Gokuu helps Namu's village recover from its drought. There are also a few omissions of manga content, such as a scene in which Gokuu and Kuririn say goodbye to Jackie. The post-restaurant scenes were all repurposed to take place at a slightly different time and place.

Cast

There are also numerous other people, including spectators, Martial Arts Fest officials, and restaurant patrons.

Setting

The events of this chapter take place primarily in the Southern Capital. There are scenes at the World's Best Martial Arts Fest grounds, at the Fighting Stage and the area surrounding it, in the waiting room, somewhere outside the Martial Arts Temple Main Building near a well, and at the outer reception area. There is also a scene at a restaurant called Delicious, and scenes on the city streets.

This chapter takes place during Age 750, and begins shortly after the events of the previous chapter. There are many small time skips leading into nightfall by the chapter's end.
