Story

The trio of Gokuu, Blooma, and the turtle continue along, until a giant bear (wielding a sword and dressed in armor) sees them. He demands that Gokuu give the sea turtle to him, for it is his favorite food. Blooma insists that he comply and give up the turtle, but Gokuu refuses. The bear then begins swiping his sword at Gokuu repeatedly, but misses each time, until Gokuu cheerfully jumps onto the blade. He then hops onto the bear's nose and punches him with a Rock-Paper-Scissors Rock, knocking the bear out. Blooma and the turtle are quite amazed by Gokuu's strength. Gokuu then asks the turtle if he really is delicious, but he firmly denies it. Later, the group finally arrives at a beach, where the turtle is excited about finally reaching the ocean, while Gokuu is amazed at the size of this "river." The turtle highly thanks Gokuu for helping him, and then swims away, promising to return with something to thank him with. Some time passes, during which Gokuu discovers he doesn't like the taste of sea water.

Elsewhere, Pilaf is imagining himself being worshipped by hundreds of people as he admires the Yi Xing Qiu. But his thoughts are interrupted by the return of Shuu and Mai, who anger him when they explain that there was no Dragon Ball in the Valley of Dragons. As he begins commanding them to find new information, he suddenly receives a phone call explaining that an old man called the Turtle Hermit has a Dragon Ball. Shuu and Mai begin to board a plane, but Pilaf is going to accompany them this time to ensure success.

The turtle soon returns, as promised. But on the turtle's back is a gaudy old man wearing a Dragon Ball around his neck and a turtle shell on his back. He introduces himself as the Turtle Hermit, and asks who saved his turtle. The turtle says it was the young lad, so the Turtle Hermit offers to give Gokuu a present. He attempts to summon a Phoenix...but nothing comes. The turtle reminds the Turtle Hermit that the Phoenix died from food poisoning, so the Turtle Hermit decides he'll have to give the boy the "Somersault Cloud" instead. A small cloud then flies over to the group. Gokuu wonders how to eat it, but the Turtle Hermit explains that this is a cloud you can ride on to fly freely through the air.

The Turtle Hermit then tells Gokuu that one needs a pure heart to be able to ride on the Somersault Cloud, which he decides to demonstrate personally. However, he falls straight through the cloud and lands on the ground. Gokuu, on the other hand, has no trouble, landing safely on top of the Somersault Cloud. Meanwhile, Pilaf now spots the island they were looking for, which is a small island holding a single house that is apparently called "Kame House." The group disembarks on the shore, where Pilaf first attempts to disguise his voice and knock on the door. When no one answers, he attempts to pick the lock. However, Shuu and Mai, who have crawled into the house through an open window, explain that the door was already unlocked, and he has just re-locked it.

Gokuu begins testing out the Somersault Cloud by flying all through the air. Blooma now wants a cloud of her own, but the Turtle Hermit does not have another Somersault Cloud. He says that he could give her something else instead, provided that...he gets a look at her panties. Blooma is awfully nervous about the prospect, while the turtle quickly begins yelling at the Turtle Hermit, now realizing why the old man can't ride the Somersault Cloud. Nonetheless, Blooma flashes the Turtle Hermit, who gets a more revealing view than he originally anticipated due to her lack of underwear. Blooma wants her end of the bargain now, but the Turtle Hermit has not yet decided on what he could offer her. As he continues thinking about it, Blooma finally notices the Dragon Ball hanging from his neck. The Turtle Hermit then hands it to her, explaining that he found it at the bottom of the ocean a hundred years ago and made it into a necklace.

Blooma excitedly calls Gokuu down from the sky, showing him that she now has another Dragon Ball, which he notes has three stars, making it the San Xing Qiu. The Turtle Hermit does not know what these Dragon Ball things are, but since it was obviously valuable to them, he wants another flashing before he'll hand it over. Thus, Blooma nonchalantly shows him again, so he relents. The group then parts ways, with Blooma on her motorcycle and Gokuu on the Somersault Cloud, riding until they reach their capsule house. Blooma heads inside to change her clothes, and then she screams. Gokuu runs in, finding Blooma wondering why her underwear is here. She realizes that this means she "didn't have them" when she flashed the Turtle Hermit. Gokuu incorrectly assumes that she was referring to a lack of male genitalia, attempting to reassure her about it. Blooma then asks him if he was the one who took her underwear, which Gokuu admits, causing her to begin firing at him with a machine gun.

Meanwhile, Pilaf, Shuu, and Mai raid Kame House, knocking over all sorts of furniture, but they cannot find the Dragon Ball anywhere. Pilaf then walks back outside, where he spots an alligator attempting to get a tan. Pilaf pulls a knife on the alligator, asking it about the Turtle Hermit's whereabouts. Luckily for the alligator, however, the Turtle Hermit is just now returning to the island. Shuu and Mai point their own weapons at the old man as they demand the Dragon Ball, but the Turtle Hermit explains that he had just given it away. The group then rushes back into their plane, asking the Turtle Hermit for a push. He does push their plane into the water for them, but not before jabbing a hole into it with his staff.

Having changed her clothes, Blooma puts the house back in its capsule as Gokuu rubs his back from the gunshots. Blooma then wants to try riding on the Somersault Cloud, though Gokuu doubts she'll be able to. His doubts are proven correct when she falls through, just as the Turtle Hermit had, but Blooma simply believes the reason to be that being too beautiful must be a crime. The duo then begins traveling down a road, as Pilaf's plane begins flooding with water until it sinks, leaving only his hat to float to the surface.

Continuity

This episode includes the remaining events of Chapter 3 that were not depicted in the previous episode. It also includes nearly all of the events of Chapter 4, save for the final page. Both of these chapters were first printed approximately 14 months before this episode first aired. Anime-original scenes involving Pilaf, Shuu, and Mai make up the remainder of the episode, during which they travel to Kame House, causing its anime debut to happen sooner in the story than its first manga appearance in Chapter 12.

Cast

The Toriyama Bot has a speaking line, but his voice is uncredited. The bandit bear is also uncredited.

Setting

The events of this episode take place primarily on an ocean shore, some distance north of the island with Kame House. There are also scenes at Kame House itself. Other locations include unspecified wilderness, and the capsule house previously set up there, along with a scene at Pilaf's Castle.

This episode takes place during Age 749, very shortly after the events of the previous episode.
