The Song at the End of Kamen Rider Ryuki 33
So I’ve been marathoning older Kamen Rider shows to help me fall asleep. (Not that they’re boring, but I’ll talk more about that another time.) And as I watched episode 33 of Ryuki, I was on the verge of dozing off until I got to the end of the episode.
Without ruining it for anyone who’s never seen the show, the end of this episode has a deliciously over-dramatic slow motion sequence backed by an amazing instrumental song. Folding laundry has never been so hype. But I also knew I’d heard that song somewhere before, so I was suddenly wide awake and searching the web to figure out what it was.
Who Watches This Crap?
Before I get to the actual subject, let me just say that I’m not trying to sell you on anything or change your mind. I’m only trying to explain my own reasons and maybe clear up some misinformation. In other words, this is meant to be informative rather than persuasive. And I feel the need to give this little warning up front because the subject in question is one of the most polarizing forms of entertainment in existence. So much so that non-fans probably would have stopped reading by now, which would be unfortunate considering that’s my target audience in writing this.
NXT Season 3, Episodes 1 to 5
I really enjoyed WWE’s NXT Season 1. Season 2 was definitely a step down, but I was still pleased with it. And now we’re in the all-female Season 3, which only had four episodes air on TV before becoming a web exclusive (at least in the US) last week. I think there are some positive aspects to it, and so far, I like most of these girls better than the current crop of WWE Divas. But I have a feeling this show will die soon, with Michael Cole ballroom dancing on its grave.
Summerslam Thoughts
Last night was Summerslam, which is WWE’s #2 annual pay-per-view after WrestleMania. If you stalk my personal Twitter (different from the new-ish site Twitter), you may have noticed I had a lot of issues with WWE’s webcast of the show. But I persevered, and I enjoyed what I did get to see.
Extreme Hardcore Reunion Homecoming of One Night Justice
This month’s (and tonight’s) TNA pay-per-view, Hardcore Justice, is of course going to be an ECW reunion show. I have many thoughts about this matter, such as, “Will anyone besides WWE’s lawyers actually care enough to order it?”
Dixie’s Kongfidential Quest
I never did get to talk about the quick end to the new “Monday Night Wars,” but I don’t think I had much to say about it anyway. I still contend that TNA’s side did start off well, but quickly fell back into mediocrity and apparently lost the interest of most Monday night viewers. But the return to Thursdays was back in May, and I want to be more recent and relevant than that. In June, Dixie Carter (the TNA Wrestling president, not the recently deceased Designing Woman) began talking about some huge secret thing that would “change TNA on every level.” Not that I’m calling her a liar, but I have a hard time believing that any one thing or person is capable of swooping in and saving TNA anymore. Except maybe Paul Heyman, but apparently it’s bigger than him. What the hell could it be, then!?
(Also, I realize this is probably my worst headline yet, but that’s exactly why I had to use it.)
Michael Cole and His Amazing Friends
The first season of WWE’s pseudo-reality show, NXT, apparently ended last week, and the second season already starts tonight. I have many things to say about both of those matters.
TV Thoughts: Conclusions, Retirements, and Fried Chicken
Some thoughts on this past week’s episodes of Raw, Chuck, Inuyasha: Final Act, Melrose Place, and South Park. I don’t think I know anyone besides myself that also enjoys all of those five things. Anyway, there are a few spoilers, but they’re hidden.
WrestleMania XXVI Thoughts
This show needs no introduction. Naturally, I ordered and watched it live last night, but even if it was almost an obligation, it was worth every cent.
TNA Monday Thoughts
So TNA has now had two regular Monday shows. They have a big pay-per-view tonight before the third Monday Impact!, so I figure this is the best time to discuss their new efforts. And if I didn’t know any better, I’d swear they listened to my complaints, because I genuinely enjoyed these two shows.
And this is only going to be about Impact! and TNA, because it’s a subject that deserves its own discussion without being compared to anything else, at least for now.
